At Rambam Day School, our kindergarten program serves as a dynamic bridge between early childhood and elementary education. Building on the inquiry-driven learning of our early childhood program, we introduce the structure, stamina, and academic expectations that prepare students for long-term success, fostering independence, confidence, and ownership of their learning.

Our kindergarten curriculum prioritizes hands-on exploration and real-world connections, ensuring that learning is both developmentally appropriate and increasingly rigorous, with a focus on literacy, mathematics, science, social-emotional learning, and the arts. Through guided inquiry, collaborative problem-solving, and purposeful practice, classroom routines, small-group instruction, and whole-group learning build focus, self-regulation, and academic habits. We differentiate instruction to support and challenge each child according to their unique strengths, needs, and developmental path.

Community and character development are central to the kindergarten experience. Students practice kindness, empathy, respect, and responsibility through daily free play, shared responsibilities, and collaborative learning. These values, rooted in our school’s Jewish heritage, are reinforced through relationships, reflection, and a strong sense of belonging.

The Rambam first-grade experience blends the wonder of early childhood with the growing academic rigor of the primary years. Throughout second grade, Rambam students develop increasing academic independence and strengthen their critical thinking skills as they learn to evaluate perspectives, organize ideas, and communicate with clarity and confidence both in and out of the classroom. Expanding beyond their immediate surroundings, Rambam second graders explore cultures around the world while deepening their connection to Israel as their “other” home. They begin to understand their rights and responsibilities within a global community and are guided to lead with empathy and accountability. Rooted in Jewish heritage and values, students grow as thoughtful, resilient community members, learning to engage meaningfully in both their classroom and school communities with heart and mind.

In the third grade at Rambam, students transition from the foundations of the primary years to using their reading, writing, and math skills to explore and begin to independently discover the secrets across all subjects in the curriculum and in their environment. Students move beyond the “how” of learning to the “why,” shifting their focus toward interpretation, evidence-based reasoning, and problem-solving. Through inquiry-based instruction and collaborative workshops, students begin to synthesize information in order to understand more complex ideas and ultimately communicate with a confident voice.

Central to the third-grade experience is the development of the child as a proactive and empathetic mensch. Our curriculum continues to expand students’ perspectives from the local to the global, as students learn to evaluate the diverse narratives that shape our world. Third graders are empowered to be informed global citizens who understand their unique role in the Jewish community and lead with both heart and mind.

In the fourth grade year at Rambam, students work towards being purposeful leaders and sophisticated thinkers, taking increased ownership of their intellectual and communal responsibilities. Across the curriculum, our fourth graders learn to apply their learning in a variety of contexts, making meaningful connections between ideas and experiences. Our language arts, Judaics, and social studies programs together, focus on the power of voice and how personal values shape actions and ultimately, society. As they deepen their understanding, Rambam fourth graders begin to develop into conscientious global citizens, prepared to collaborate, think critically, and lead their communities with informed minds and Jewish hearts.

The fifth-grade year at Rambam marks the pinnacle of our elementary experience, designed to transition students into empowered, resilient leaders with a solid academic foundation and strong critical thinking skills. Rambam fifth graders synthesize the logic of mathematics and the inquiry of science with the nuanced interpretation required in language arts and social studies. Our graduates develop the intellectual endurance to tackle multi-faceted challenges with precision and a growth-oriented mindset.

At its core, the fifth-grade journey is rooted in a profound commitment to Jewish life and the State of Israel. Through advanced studies in Hebrew and Judaic Studies, students engage deeply with sacred texts and modern Israeli culture, refining their ability to communicate effectively in two languages while grounding their identity in timeless values. As they prepare to graduate, our fifth graders understand that their education is a tool for social action. By connecting their classroom explorations to real-world current events and community needs, they learn to contribute meaningfully to the broader society. They leave Rambam as reflective, conscientious global citizens who possess the voice, the heart, and the academic rigor to lead with purpose in the years to come.
